Kadek
My name is Ni Made Widiani. They call me Kadek. I was born in Karangasem on the 7th of February 1988, and I lived there with my family for most of my life. From when I was born, until I finished junior high school; I lived in the village with my family. My father, I Nengah Redip, and my mother, Ni Made Miati, both work as farmers. I also help work in the farm. I am the second child in my family. My siblings include one older brother, I Wayan Widastra, one younger brother, I Komang Juniarta, and one younger sister, Ni Wayan Sudianti.

After I finished primary and junior high school, I left my village to go to Banggli for senior high school studies. For three years, I lived in Banggli at a rent house while going to school. Of course during that time, I missed my family and wanted to see them, so I would go to my village one time each moon. I went back to my village to stay with my family again after I finished high school.

I wanted to continue school to become a teacher, but my family does not have enough money to send me to university, so I took a break of about one year. Then, one day a friend of my father’s named Putu Ardana introduced me to Mike, Scott and Matt at the Santika hotel. They talked to me and give me interview. Then they tell me that they will help me to go to college.

When I tell my family that I will go to university, they are happy and support me, but worry about paying for school. Mike and Scott tell me that if I study hard and do well, that they will pay for everything for school. This made me feel very happy and lucky. Later, my family and I have dinner with them, and there I met Dewi, Ami, Dayu, Komang, and Ni Luh, who are other students sponsored by Education for the World.

The first of September, I started my studies in Denpasar. I want to be a teacher because I want to help people to learn. I will live in a rent house there. Life is different there than in my village. If I stay in my village, I see my family every day, and they take care of me and help me if I need something. When I stay in Denpasar, I must do everything for myself, and I will miss my family. However, I am very happy I can go to university, and I will be looking for a good job as a teacher when I finish...
