| When I passed the test to enter state
university, I was proud. Airlangga University is a very reputable state
university in Indonesia. I worked very hard to make my parents proud of
me. After I finished my study at Airlangga University, I worked in
Surabaya and Gresik for many months. When I went home to Lamongan, I
would always help my mom and my elder sister to teach their students.
Since I was child, I liked helping to teach my mom's students. The
reason why I like teaching is because I remember my mom's advice "be
useful to other people and help people." In June 2008, I started my career in Bali. I love this tranquil and alluring island. When I worked as bahasa (language) Indonesia teacher at Pandan College, I joined an online language learning and exchange program. This is where I met Scott. We would practice learning each other's language while emailing and chatting about life and family. I told Scott that I wanna teach at school; but I needed a teaching certificate, because I graduated university with a research, not teaching, background. For me to take the required courses for certificate, I would have to save enough money from my monthly salary first and that will take a long time. Meanwhile, this AKTA IV program will be closed by government in 2010. Then Scott said that if I promised to work hard, he had a way to pay for studies. At first, I did not think he was serious, then he told me about Education For The World. I was so surprised and happy!! Scott sent a message to introduce me to Dewi, their student manager in Denpasar. I met Dewi and she told me that they would help me with things that I need to study. This is the last wave of AKTA IV, but the good news is that I did not miss the chance. I am starting my study on the 19th of June 2009. Thank you very much for Mike, Scott, Dewi and all at Education For The World. I appreciate this program and opportunity! My family supports me so much. I hope I become a professional teacher. Then I can help my parents to put my younger sister, Melin, at university to study. Now, she is student of Elementary School. I want my parent's dream to come true—that all their children finish studies at university and help other people… Originally Posted: June 2009 ~ (read more about Ida on her http://idahappy.wordpress.com blog) |
