| Education for the World, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt
charitable organization based in California, which provides college
scholarship money for women around the world, especially those with
financial or other life challenges. Our current focus is in Bali,
Indonesia. In 2006, the original concept for Education for the World
was formulated. While vacationing in Bali that year, the founder,
Michael Ballinger, decided to use his own money to enroll the first two
students. By 2007, Education for the World was officially incorporated and received tax-exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service. To this point, the organization has sponsored ten college students. Full sponsorship includes paying for tuition, for school supplies, such as a laptop, and providing a small monthly stipend, which allows students to spend more time studying, instead of working. We believe that education is the gateway to wider opportunities and also to a higher standard of living. It is our hope that the initial effort becomes a self-sustaining process in which those helped go on to help others. For a more detailed description of our genesis and goals, watch the video introduction or read Mike's story. More recent information can also be found on the news page. |
